ROMANS 1

1. What introduction of myself would be most accurate…who am I really? (Romans 1:1)

“I am Paul, I am a servant of Christ Jesus, I am called to be an apostle, I am set apart for the Gospel of God. . .”  MY phrase: __________________________________________________________

2. Jesus the Christ. . . Fully God & Fully Man! Why? What is possible because of this? (1:3,4)

“…regarding His Son, who as to His HUMAN NATURE was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared, with power to be the Son of God by His RESURRECTION from the dead.”  What is important about Jesus being a “descendant of David”?     How does Jesus’ resurrection declare Him to be the Son of God? What about Lazarus, Jairus’ daughter & others who were raised?

3. What is the significance of this powerful verse?

“I am not ashamed of the Gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.”

What does this mean?

“For in the Gospel, a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith…the righteous will live by faith.”

How does this link with Abraham’s faith? Romans 4:18-25

4. What is the significance of Romans 1:18-20?

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who SUPPRESS the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.”

What does this mean? How is it seen in our world?

“For since the creation of the world Gods’ invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been madeso that men are without excuse.” How are God’s ‘invisible qualities’ seen & understood by what has been made?

5. For although they knew God, they neither glorified God nor gave thanks to Him…”

Has there ever been a time when EVERYONE alive knew God for who He is? (Gen. 3; 8) But also Israel (Exodus 14; Joshua 24; Judges 2).

How does a person, a family move from Knowing God >> Apathy >> interest in other gods >> dabbling with other gods >> to embrace other gods & reject God?

6. 1:23 “They exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images. . .” How? _________________

“Therefore God gave them over…” To what? _____________________________

7. 1:25 “They exchanged the truth of God for a lie…” How? _____________________________

“…God gave them over…” To what? _____________________________

8. 1:28 “They did not retain the knowledge of God. . .” How? _____________________________

“…He gave them over to…”  To what? _____________________________

9. And what has been the result of this downward moral, spiritual, intellectual spiral in society?
